Nancy Pelosi announced today that she plans to seek the position of House Minority Leader. She claims there's still, "unfinished business" to attend to and she wants to be the person to continue to lead her party. I hope her fellow Democrats pick her. I really do.
This announcement came just a day after soon-to-be former Speaker Pelosi offered her opinion on why her party was handed its worse loss in the house since the 1930's. She claims it was a result of her party not doing enough over the last two years. She must be oblivious to the fact that voters in virtually every state used their vote to express anger at her party for everything they had done.
She apparently doesn't believe a government take over of our health care system was enough. Maybe she doesn't believe the government spent enough taxpayer money on the failed stimulus spending. She must believe that Republicans were able to take control of 19 state houses not because Democrats like to pass bills first so we can then read what's in them. She must think voters would like to see more of that. This woman must really be delusional.
Quite obviously there are fewer Democrats in the House now. There are even fewer "Blue Dog" Democrats. That means the radicals make up a higher percentage of their representation than before. Those are people that are probably going to be more loyal to her. With any luck, she'll be able to convince them to give her the position.
The GOP's "Fire Pelosi" campaign was a total and complete success from every angle. It appears to be getting even better. One would expect major changes from a party that lost as badly as hers did Tuesday. To date though there have been no changes announced in the White House. Now it looks like there will be no changes in the party leadership. The same cast that made the same mistakes want to keep doing what they've been doing. I hope they do. Their efforts were what made Tuesday so successful. With any luck they can keep it up and we can all celebrate their continued failure two years from now. Good luck Nancy!
